Héritages
2022
This series of portraits was inspired by the life of Émélie Chamard (1887-1981), an avant-garde figure in Quebec’s textile heritage. It highlights contemporary individuals who, like her, are reclaiming traditional craftsmanship to position themselves against the grain of our time.
Through this body of work, I examine the act of creation as a form of resistance against immediacy. By choosing trades rooted in slowness and transmission, these « guardians of memory » deliberately stand apart from a frantic consumer society. My oil portraits seek to capture the tension between the permanence of ancestral gestures and the individuality of those embodying them today. More than a celebration of the past, Héritages explores how the mastery of time and craft redefines our relationship with the world.
